Microneedling

Helps you achieve smoother, glowing skin, and prevent the signs of aging

Overview of Microneedling

Microneedling is a treatment that can help:

  • Increase collagen production
  • Reduce the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Reduce uneven skin texture and acne scarring
  • Prevent signs of aging on the neck
  • Create smoother, glowing skin

Overview

Microneedling, also know as skin needling, collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), provides a number of benefits for your skin. The treatment triggers your body’s own natural and spontaneous healing process. This stimulates the proliferation of new cells and causes the formation of new collagen. It’s a very safe and effective form of skin treatment for all variations in ethnicities and skin tones.

You can have total peace of mind, knowing that at TBT Medical & Aesthetics, we only use genuine DERMAROLLER® CIT. DERMAROLLER® is licensed by Health Canada and is the gold standard of professional microneedling.

How does microneedling work?
The surgical-grade stainless steel micro-needles on the DERMAROLLER® are uniquely shaped and placed, to cause precise and controlled tiny injuries to the epidermis and dermis. These mechanical injuries trigger your body to automatically regenerate and repair your skin, with healthy new cells, and new collagen production. All this happens with minimal invasion and downtime.

Because microneedling causes your body to create healthy, new cells, it can also help to improve the texture, tone, and thickness of your skin. In addition, microneedling is clinically proven to improve scars and stretch marks.

Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma combined with microneedling may be even more effective for restorative skin treatments. PRP amplifies the effects of microneedling to maximize the restoration of collagen in your skin. It may also improve the appearance of mild acne scars, age spots, hyper-pigmentation and stretch marks. While PRP can be applied to any area of the skin, the most common treatment areas include the chest, neck and face.

Common questions you might have:

How long does a medical microneedling treatment take?

You should be prepared to spend 90 minutes at our Kitchener clinic if you are having a medical microneedling (CIT) treatment.

A topical anesthetic will be applied first for 30 minutes, and the procedure with the roller or eDermaStamp will follow.

The treatment will conclude with a soothing and hydrating hyaluronic acid mask.

Is a microneedling treatment painful?

Medical microneedling treatments can cause mild to moderate discomfort, but topical anesthesia prior to the treatment will ensure greater comfort during the procedure.

The DERMAROLLER® home system can be used safely at home with little to no discomfort, and without the use of topical anesthetics.

How many medical microneedling treatments will I need and when will I see results?

For optimal results, 3-6 treatments should be performed at least 2 months apart (in order to allow for collagen maturation).

Very early results may be seen one week after treatment, with noticeable results 6 weeks after. Your skin can continue to improve for up to 6 months after your treatment.

Are there any side effects or complications from medical microneedling treatments?

Microneedling treatments have very little potential for complications. The DERMAROLLER® CIT system has been approved for safe use by Health Canada and the FDA.

Microneedling treatments provide minimally invasive mechanical wounds to the skin, unlike the burn injuries and accompanying adverse effects when lasers are used to resurface/remodel the skin.

A small risk of infection is always possible when the skin is broken, however, clean and/or sterile procedures are used to avoid contamination; a new roller or eDermaStamp cartridge is used for every patient and every new treatment. Hyperpigmentation can occur with aggressive eDermaStamp treatments.

How will I look and feel after my treatment?

Immediate post-treatment skin is red and warm, like a sunburn. Hours later swelling may develop. This usually subsides within a couple days, with more aggressive treatments requiring a little more recovery time.

Detailed post-treatment instructions will be provided to protect your post-treatment skin.

Can anyone have a medical microneedling treatment?

There are some absolute and/or possible contraindications to treatment. Any of the following conditions should be discussed during your consultation: history of hypertrophic or keloid scars, history of skin cancer, recent oral steroid use, recent laser resurfacing or skin peel, chemotherapy or radiation, pregnancy or breastfeeding, active herpes simplex (cold sores) and active acne.

Give us a call or stop by our clinic in Kitchener and we can fully assess any foreseeable issues.

Can I use my regular skin care products after my treatment?

Not all skin products are appropriate for post-treatment skin, and some ingredients are vitally important to ensure you get optimal treatment results. Your treatment results are so important to us that patients have the opportunity to purchase a customized, medical grade SKINMEDICA® package at a discounted rate when a microneedling package is purchased.

How can I maintain my results?

Most people can maintain their results with one treatment every 9-12 months. Maintenance may be negatively affected by unhealthy lifestyle choices such as cigarette smoking, increased alcohol intake, and poor sleep habits. Using the DERMAROLLER® home system requires minimal time and effort and will help to increase the effectiveness and longevity of your medical microneedling treatments.
