Why Derma Filler Treatment?

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can help:

  • Enhance the fullness and sensuality of your lips
  • Highlight and define your cheekbones
  • Restore the bone and tissue structure of your youth
  • Smooth facial lines and wrinkles
  • Add volume to hollow areas around the eyes, temples, jaw, and chin
  • Define and sculpt your cheeks, jawline, and the bridge of your nose
  • Replenish volume in your hands

Overview:

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from substances like hyaluronic acid (such as Restylane®) or calcium (Radiesse®). These fillers can effectively reverse signs of aging on your face and hands. As you age, your body produces less hyaluronic acid and collagen, leading to decreased facial volume due to the loss of fat and bone density. Additionally, your skin becomes thinner, losing its firmness and elasticity. This causes the face to deflate and gradually sag, resulting in unwanted folds and wrinkles.

DermaL Fillers FAQs

How soon will I see a difference? How long does a treatment last?

The results from dermal filler treatments can vary based on factors like genetics, smoking, stress, sun exposure, and pollution. Typically, results from a single treatment last between 6-10 months, depending on the specific filler used and the area treated. An advantage of dermal fillers is that the treatment is reversible. If you’re not satisfied with the results, you can return to your pre-filler appearance. Dermal fillers are biodegradable, meaning the gel naturally breaks down and disappears from your body over time.

What are the common side effects from dermal fillers?

Common side effects after dermal filler treatments include swelling, bruising, redness, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness, which typically last a few days to a week. Some patients may also experience temporary lumps and bumps. Rare and unexpected side effects include the development of nodules, tissue necrosis or abscess, firmness, acne formation, granuloma formation at the injection site, localized allergic reactions, or blindness due to vascular occlusion.

Does the treatment hurt?

You may experience some discomfort from the injections; however, most dermal filler products contain an anesthetic (lidocaine) to minimize pain. Additional topical and injectable anesthesia can be used as needed. We also offer products without lidocaine for patients with a known allergy.

How should I prepare for my dermal filler treatments?

To minimize bruising, avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (ASA, Advil, Ibuprofen, Vit E, St. John’s wort, white willow bark, omega fatty acids) for at least 7 days prior to your treatment unless prescribed by your physician. If you suffer from Herpes Simplex (cold sores) and plan to have treatment around your lips or mouth, you should take antiviral medication prescribed by your doctor to prevent an outbreak. Additionally, complete your daily exercise before your treatment.

After your dermal filler treatment:

  • Avoid touching the treated area for at least 6 hours and sleep on your back for 2 nights (for cheek injections).
  • Avoid heat-producing activities like sunbathing and sun lamps to reduce the risk of increased bruising.
  • Schedule any heat-producing laser treatments at least 14 days after your filler treatment to avoid reducing the effectiveness of your results.
  • Avoid vigorous physical activity for 48 hours after your treatment.

Can everyone use dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are not recommended for anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age. Those with a known hypersensitivity to the product components, a history of autoimmune disease, or those receiving immunosuppressive therapy should avoid treatment. Dermal fillers should be used cautiously by individuals with inflammatory skin conditions, a tendency to develop hypertrophic scarring, or those currently undergoing laser therapy, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion.
